An aromatic, spicy and deep-flavoured chilli oil, made using a recipe hailing from Kashmir.
It's composed of a rich mix of eight roasted spices, Kashmiri Chilli and pink Himalayan salt, all sourced from Pakistan. Crispy garlic and shallots add an extra flavour hit, and provide a uniquely fragrant aroma.
The chilli oil goes with absolutely everything. Some favourite pairings are samosas, shakshuka, dals, gyozas, soups and salads.
Kashmir, often referred to as ‘Paradise on Earth’, possesses a rich heritage, influenced by Central Asian, South Asian, and Persian cultures. Chef Sal’s grandfather was a pivotal figure in Pakistani politics, and played a crucial role in advocating for the rights of Kashmiris and addressing the complex political problems faced in Kashmir. This Chilli Oil is a tribute to Sal's grandfather’s legacy, and honours the indigenous community of Kashmir. Sal sources the Kashmiri chilli in the recipe directly from farmers in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, aiding them in receiving fair wages and raising awareness of their remarkable produce.
ABOUT THE MAKER
Third Culture Kat is the brainchild of Chef Sal who was raised in a family of farmers, learning about high-quality produce from a young age. She created the brand as a reflection of her diverse influences; encompassing private events, supper clubs, cooking workshops, and condiments created to support working farmers in Pakistan. The name is a symbol of her unique cultural background that informs her cooking.
