Barney started home-brewing in 2020 at the age of 23, during the Covid pandemic. What started as a lockdown hobby soon turned into a passion, and he developed a keen interest in sour beer production in particular.

What started as a side hustle became Barney's full-time gig, with Tart being founded in 2023. Tart's mission is to bring sour beer to more people by brewing super light, accessible sour beers that are low in bitterness, and that appeal to beer and non-beer drinkers alike!
