Espera, led by Rodrigo Martins, crafts wines in Alcobaça, north of Lisbon, using organic, heritage-driven methods that connect each vintage to the region's natural rhythms. Espera translates as 'wait' in English, a principle that forms the basis of Espera's winemaking philosophy. This fresh, crisp white wine has great minerality on the nose with notes of white pulp fruits, thanks to its aging in oak and the location of the vineyard. It is a co-ferment, with fermentation taking place in aged oak before 12 months maturation in the same oak. It pairs well with lighter dishes, especially seafood, grilled fish, shelfish and creamy pasta dishes. ABV: 12.5%.

ABOUT THE MAKER

Espera is the vision of Rodrigo Martins, who draws inspiration from the concept of "waiting" to connect his organically farmed vineyards in the Alcobaça region, just north of Lisbon, to the rhythms of nature. With 5 hectares dedicated to indigenous grape varieties, including the renowned Touriga Nacional, Rodrigo crafts each cuvée with a unique approach, allowing the wine to evolve based on its vintage. By embracing the historical winemaking practices of the area's Cistercian monks, Espera offers a true reflection of Alcobaça's terroir and rich heritage.
