Pinotage is a grape variety that was created in South Africa via crossing Pinot Noir and Cinsault together. Traditionally you find Pinotage wines to be big, bold, round and extracted. This couldn't be more different. It's treated almost like a Gamay/ Beaujolais, so it's all about the lightness and brightness here. Definitely serve it with a chill, and let the red berries take you by the hand. Red cherries, hedgerow, bit of clove and star anise. It's a beauty this. This was a single barrel of Pinotage that Angus felt didn't quite fit the style of wines that he usually makes in his range of wines, and so he kept it separate from bottling with no clear plan for the wine. Which seemed like the perfect opportunity for Wasted Wine Club to provide a new home for the wine with our second collaboration. ABV 12%
